Getting Started

Like every other thing in Network Defense, Creeps have a XML based description file:
	<?xml version="1.0" ?>

	<creep>
		<description>
		</description>

		<credits>
		</credits>
	</creep>

You can see the two common elements description and credits.

Lets take a look at the description element first:
	<description>
		<name> Tank </name>
		<sprite>
			<frame delay="1.0" > data/common/creeps/Tank/Tank.png </frame>
		</sprite>
		<health value="10" />
		<speed value="30.0" />
		<reward value="10" />
		<align_to_path value="1" />
	</description>

  • name: The name of the creep as it appears in game
  • sprite: A container element for frames of the creeps walk animation
    • frame: Individual frames of a creeps walk animation. There MUST be atleast one frame. Additional frames are optional.
      NOTE: This file path should be absolute to the NetworkDefense executable
      • delay: How long to display this frame for before cycling to the next frame
  • health: How many points of health a creep can have
  • speed: How fast the creep moves
  • reward: How much money a player gets for killing the creep
  • align_to_path: Whether or not a creep should rotate to align to its current path
    NOTE: If using this, the right side of the image is considered the front and will face down the path.
Fairly self explanitory, now is the common credits container element which I think speaks for it's self:
	<credits>
		<author> Adam W. Brown </author>
		<version> 0.1 </version>
		<created> 11 JAN 2009 </created>
	</credits>

Now all that is required to use your creep is to add a wave of them to your map!
See the Map Creation tutorial for instructions on how to do this.
